Biophilic Return on Investment (ROI) Calculator

1 · Savings from Reduced Student Absenteeism

Biophilic Design lessens student absenteeism by 5% on average. Funding rates come from LCFF Funding data for Public and Charter Schools.

District wide TK-12th grade

State average funding per student per day. If you select several groups, their rates are averaged.

6.6% is the state average rate per California Legislative Analyst's Office (2026); California Department of Education (2024–25).

You could recognize $0 in increased State funding with Biophilic Design per year.

Calculation assumes 180 instructional days per year.

2 · Substitute teacher Savings

Biophilic Design lessens teacher absences by about 12%. Your number of teachers is estimated from enrollment at a ratio of 20.4 students to 1 teacher (California Department of Education), and teacher pay is an average regionally based on data from CaliforniaSchoolJobs.com.

Estimated teachers in your district: 0

Estimated teachers based on student enrollment entered above.

NorCal Average Sub Teacher Pay = $215 / day SoCal Average Sub Teacher Pay = $200 / day
With Biophilic Design, your sub costs go down by $0 per year.

3 · Teacher retention Cost Savings

The Learning Policy Institute (2024) found teacher turnover costs vary by district size, before counting costs to students and schools. Biophilic Design is associated with a 7.8% increase in teacher retention.

84.4% is the state average of Highest Need Schools, Lowest Need Schools, Charter Schools and Special Ed Teachers, per Learning Policy Institute, California Teacher Workforce Research (June 2026).

Small district (Under 10,000 students) · $11,860 / departure Medium district (10,000-50,000 students) · $16,450 / departure Large district (Over 50,000 students) · $24,930 / departure
With Biophilic Design, you could save $0 per year.
TOTAL ANNUAL BENEFIT FOR YOUR DISTRICT 2026 $0
10-YEAR BENEFIT FOR YOUR SCHOOL DISTRICT $0 Your 2026 total repeated for 10 years, growing at a 3.3% historical annual inflation rate.

Estimates apply study percentages to the figures you enter: funding = enrollment × average daily rate × 180 days × absence rate × 5%; subs = (enrollment ÷ 20.4) × absence days × sub cost × 12%; retention = teachers × (1 − retention rate) × departure cost × 7.8%. 10-year benefit = sum of the 2026 total grown 3.3% each year over 10 years. Results are illustrative, not a guarantee.
